Jackie Dale Jewell, age 87, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 26, 2010. He was born on November 12, 1922, in Gustavus, Ohio, to the late Charles and Lucille Jewell, and he grew up in Kinsman, Ohio. Jack was a fighter pilot in the Army Air Force, flying Advanced P-51D Mustangs over Germany in the 356th Air Groupâ�™s â�œLittle Friends.â He earned two Battle Stars and a Victory Medal. After his service to our country, Jack graduated from Tri-State College in Indiana, and then went on to earn a professional degree in engineering from Wright State University. He worked in aeronautical and mechanical engineering, eventually fulfilling his dream of owning his own business, Jewell & Associates Inc. Jack was innovative, holding several patents for his work with Rockwell Automation. He loved to work on cars and model airplanes, and he also enjoyed golfing and working with youth. He was a Boy Scout Master and was involved with Junior Achievement. He was also a lifelong member of the Disciples of Christ. He was generous and calm, even under pressure, he was always ready for dessert, and he made friends everywhere he went. Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lillian Jewell; children, Mark Jewell, Andrea (Randy) Robbins, Scott (Diane) Jewell, Kent Jewell, and Amy Strangis; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Joyce Ragan; nieces and nephews, Linda Cress, Kim Sovelle, Sean Ragan, and Troy Ragan; and good friends, Joseph Bligh, Ralph and Barbara Rockow, Ralph Ziggenoff, and Ethel and Walt Alpiger. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ivan and Gerald; and friends, Bob Mathers, Marvin Fox, and John and Edith Dowdy. Family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2010, at SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 E. Livingston Ave. A graveside service with military honors will be held at Kinsman Cemetery in Kinsman, Ohio, on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 12 Noon with Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main St., Kinsman, Ohio, handling arrangements.
