Jacqueline Mary Yanus

June 23, 1934 — September 16, 2024

Andover, Ohio

Jacqueline “Jackie” Mary Yanus, of Andover, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 16, 2024. She was born on June 23, 1934, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Harry and Lyda Ella (Ruiz) Wilson.

Graduated at the top of her class from the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, Jackie's early career saw her working as a telephone operator before she married her loving husband, James F. Yanus, Sr.

Jackie treasured her family, friends, and military community deeply. By caring and nurturing those around her, she created a warm and loving home that made everyone feel welcomed. Her genuine character was balanced by her witty spirit, unwavering kindness, and a fully stocked kitchen with an open seat for all. Though a talented crafter, her true joy was reading. She was known for delving into her books for hours. She had a keen eye for treasure shopping, and decorating for every holiday. This shone brightest when she and Jimmy, transformed their home for Christmas. It was known as the local must-visit in the neighborhood during the season.

As a dedicated military spouse, and devoted supporter of her husband, Jimmy, a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, Jackie’s adventurous spirit led her to travel with Jimmy during his military career. Together, with their son, they lived in various countries, building their family foundation, and creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Jacqueline leaves behind her beloved son, “Skip” - James F. Yanus, Jr.; granddaughter, Christine (Mike) Ference; greatgrandchildren, Alex and Drew Ferguson; chosen grandchildren, Rachel Thompson, Christina O’Shea and Dawn Fredrick; her New England family which include, loving brother, Bill (Carol) Wilson; nephews, Bill Wilson, Harry (Robyn) Wilson Jr., Michael (Lisa) Wilson; nieces, Susan (Kevin) Lambert, Kelly (Dave) Pascoe; Judy (Wayne) Gates, Ellen (Kevin) Malfy, chosen family, JoAnn (Jimmy) O’Shea.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy, her parents, her brother, Harry and sister in law, Maura Wilson.

Friends and family, the calling hour will be held from 10-11am, with the memorial service to immediately follow at 11am on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect Street, Andover, OH 44003. The family is hosting a loved ones luncheon afterwards. Pastor Linda Bradley, of Andover United Methodist Church, will be officiating.
