James A. Barnes, age 71, of New Lyme township, Ohio, beloved husband for 49 years of Patricia (Wilson) Barnes, died Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio, following a brief illness. Born March 4, 1944 in Brewer, Maine, James retired from Pymatuning Valley Schools in 2013 where he worked in building and ground maintenance. He attended the Cherry Valley United Methodist Church. In his free time he enjoyed tinkering with old garden tractors, attending tractor pulls and car shows, fishing, and woodworking. He could often be found sitting under his favorite tree with a cold glass of iced tea or taking in an old western movie. James is survived by his wife; his daughter, Christine E. Barnes of Jefferson; his son,Howard L. (Carla) Barnes of Cleveland; his six grandchildren, Zachary, Andrew, Matthew, and Leah Davitishvili,and Jonathan and Alden Barnes; and his three brothers, Gary (Carol), Rand, and Jay (Nancy) Barnes; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jaimee; his parents, Howard and Doris (Philbrick) Barnes; and a brother, Herbert Barnes. Calling hours will be on Saturday, February 13, 2016, from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM at the Cherry Valley United Methodist Church, 3353 St. Rt. 6, Cherry Valley township, OH. A memorial service to celebrate his life will begin at 2:00 PM with Rev. John Germaine officiating.
