James D. VanGorder

Kinsman, Ohio - James Duane VanGorder, age 83, died on Friday, December 9, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on November 25, 1933, a son of Coral Marie (Fobes) and Sherral VanGorder. Mr. VanGorder attended Kinsman High School. On August 2, 1952 he married Lottie Elizabeth "Betty" Fitch. He worked for Target Stamped Products of Kinsman for thirteen years, moving on to work for American Welding Manufacturing of Warren, Ohio for over twenty-five years, retiring in 1991. Mr. VanGorder also owned and operated VanGorder Excavating for over forty years. He attended the Kinsman Chapel of the Christian & Missionary Alliance. Mr. VanGorder was known to lend a helping hand to whomever needed one and performed as a "One Man Band" playing the guitar, harmonica and drum. He enjoyed dancing and singing, boating and fishing and spending time with his family. Mr. VanGorder is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Floyd E. VanGorder and Robert D. VanGorder; three sisters, Wyoma Rector, Vernita Green, Donna Sayers; a brother, Floyd Warren and a grandson. Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years, Betty VanGorder of Kinsman, Ohio; three daughters, Norma J. Hartz of Jamestown, Pennsylvania, Colleen L. (Brian) Smith of Bristolville, Ohio, Lori L. (Jon) Sloan of Kinsman, Ohio; a son Wayne A. (Diane Mattera) VanGorder of Linesville, Pennsylvania; a brother, Delbert (Jeanie) VanGorder of Warren, Ohio; ten grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 11:00am at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main St., Kinsman, Ohio with Rev. Howard Darr officiating. Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 16th from 4:00pm until 7:00pm, Memorial contributions may be made to The Church, 6590 State Route 87, Kinsman, OH 44428, to Country Neighbor or MVI Hospice Care.
