Jean B. Garlock, 88, Kinsman, OH, passed away on Monday, November 16, 2009 at Andover Village Retirement Community in Andover, OH. She was born on July 13, 1921 in Ada, OH to Paul and Frances (Shanks) Porter. She was a 1937 graduate of Johnston High School and received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Ohio Northern University in 1942. Jean married Lawrence "Luke" Garlock on September 15, 1945 in Johnson, OH and he preceded her in death on June 8, 1976. She was a teacher for 23 years at Kinsman/Badger High School until she retired in 1975. She also worked for the Champion and Howland School Districts and United Airlines in reservations. Luke and Jean owned and operated a dairy farm in Kinsman for over 20 years. Jean was an active member of Kinsman United Methodist Church where she was a participant in Women's Society and was a Conference Delegate. She was also a member of Johnston Literary Club, Bay View Literary Club, Chat-n-Patch, Business Women's Association, American Legion Aux., Kinsman/Hartford Eastern Star Chapter and several card clubs. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross Bloodmobile Drive for over 30 years. Jean is survived by her children, Lawrence "Larry" (Barbara) Garlock, Kinsman, OH and Trudy J. (Lewis) Skelton, Strongsville, OH; brother, James H. (Cornelia) Porter, Kirtland, OH; sister-in-law, Jane Porter of Geneva-on-the-Lake; grandchildren, Jody (Scott) Hanes, Fremont, OH, Devon (Ryan) Weaver, Astoria, OR, Lauren Skelton, Seattle, WA, Jeffery Garlock, Kinsman, OH, Kelly McDevitt, Anchorage, AK and Donny Hennessy, Clearwater, FL; three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Luke Garlock and brother, William "Bill" Porter. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Kinsman Cemetery Chapel with lunch to follow at the Kinsman United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Kinsman Free Public Library, P.O. Box 166, Kinsman, OH 44428.
