Jean Hay Bennett, 82 years old, of Niles, OH, died on Monday, February 16, 2004, at Briarfield of Cortland in Fowler Twp., OH. Jean was born on May 22, 1921, in Toronto, Canada, to the late Thomas Hay and the late Charlotte (McKitrick) Hay. A long time Espyville, Pennsylvania resident, Mrs. Bennett has lived in Niles, Ohio, for the past year. She was formerly employed by the Penn State Extension office in Meadville, PA, for over ten years as a nutrition specialist. She was also assistant postmaster at the Espyville Post Office for many years. Mrs. Bennett was a long time active member at the North Shenango Presbyterian Church in Espyville, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She enjoyed ballroom and square dancing with her husband in earlier years. Mrs. Bennett married James A. Bennett on April 11, 1941. He died December 11, 1997. Also preceding her in death are her parents. She is survived by her son, James T. Bennett of Fairbanks, AK; her son, Jerry L. Bennett of Kinsman, OH; her sister, Betty Williams of Youngstown, OH; her sister, Margaret DiRienzo of Poland, OH; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2004, at 6:00p.m. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover, Ohio. A private burial will take place in Espyville Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 3p.m. until the time of the service.
