Jeffrey Brian Meddock, 38, of Roaming Shores, Ohio, passed away suddenly in his home on Friday, October 3, 2008. Jeff was born on July 24, 1970 in Rochester, Pennsylvania, the son of Dale R. and Wilma J. (Phillips) Meddock. Jeff was a 1989 graduate of Ambridge Area High School. He received a Bachelors in History from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania; a Masters in Education Administration from Youngstown State University, and received his Superintendent Certification from Cleveland State University. He is survived by his parents, of Economy, Pennsylvania; two brothers, Shawn (Lisa) of Dublin, Ohio, and Michael, (Valaurie) of Kalamazoo, Michigan; and seven nieces and nephews. Importantly, Jeff is also survived by the hundreds of students and community members whose lives he touched through the leadership roles he held during his nine years as an administrator with the Pymatuning Valley Local School District. His passion for trying to help every student reach his or her potential helped energize the district community and endeared him to hundreds of students and numerous faculty and community members since he first joined the district in 1998. From 1998 through 2004, Jeff served two years as assistant high school principal, two years as principal, and one year as assistant superintendent to Bill Lynch. After the 2004-2005 school year, he assumed the superintendent position and helped lead the campaign for the successful passage of an emergency operating levy. During these years, Jeff also played a key role in the planning and oversight of the district's building campaign and led teams that improved many aspects of the district's curriculum and day-to-day operations. Jeff spent a year as principal at North High School in Willoughby-Eastlake, but in the fall of 2006 he returned to Pymatuning Valley High School, to the position of principal that he always said was his favorite because it allowed him to be closer to the students he cared for so much and to the community he loved and never again planned to leave. Jeff devoted a significant portion of his life to helping high schoolers become better students, athletes, and citizens. He was an unpaid assistant coach of the boys' basketball team at Pymatuning Valley and coach of the nationally successful Ashtabula AAU Court Runners basketball team. Jeff also actively participated in the education and business communities of Ashtabula County. He was a member of the board of trustees of the Partnership for Education in Ashtabula County, the Andover Chamber of Commerce, and the Andover Rotary Club.
