Andover, Ohio - Jesse Jay Adkins, age 92, of Andover, Ohio, went peacefully from home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 2, 2007. He was born on October 7, 1914 in Bullcreek, West Virginia to John I. and Cherlotta (Burgess) Adkins. Formerly of Cleveland and Newbury, Ohio, Mr. Adkins was an Andover resident since 1994. Mr. Adkins served in the United States Army as a Sergeant during World War II. He was involved in the Normandy invasion at Omaha Beach and received a French Cross of War among others from French General Charles DeGaulle. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and was an avid animal lover. On July 1, 1960 he married Emma Mae Adkins. Mr. Adkins was employed for over 27 years for the former Republic Steel Company of Cleveland, Ohio where he was a pipefitter and an expediter, retiring in 1971. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Homer and Clifford Adkins; and two sisters, Lori Kuhn and Edith Wright. Survivors include his wife of forty six years, Emma M. Adkins of Andover; a sister, Pearl (Herman) Roe of Gordon, West Virginia; three daughters, Carol A. Moten of Jumping Branch, West Virginia, Fran G. (Rick) Carter of San Leon, Texas, and Cathy J. (Bob) Bukovics of Burton, Ohio; son, Chester W. Jones of Southington, Ohio; nine grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 5, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect Street, Andover, Ohio. Burial will follow in Newbury, Ohio in Munn Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 4th from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
