John "Patrick" Askin, age 71, of Andover, Ohio, passed away Monday evening, February 6, 2012, at St. Joseph Emergency Center in Andover. Pat was born March 17, 1940, in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of the late William and Kathryne Marie (Sowers) Askin. He was a 1958 graduate of Wilson High School, and worked for the General Motors division of Packard Electric for 27 years. Pat was a caring and loving person. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and watching the news, NASCAR races, and all type of sports on the television. His favorite channel was Fox News. Pat was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Andover where he also dedicated years of service as an officer. In 1981 Pat donated a kidney to his sister, Judith Ann Stanchin, who preceded him in death on Dec. 26, 2011. He is also preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Sonny Askin in 2003. Pat's legacy lives on with his Gift of Sight through eye donation. Pat is survived by his wife, Iveta (Gresova) Askin, whom he married July 10, 1992, of Andover; his brother, Bill (Paula) Askin of Medford, NJ; his brother-in-law, John Stanchin of Struthers,OH; his two daughters, Shawna and Shannon, both of Cincinnati,OH; and many family in Slovakia. Pat will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Calling hours will be on Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 4 PM to 6 PM at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 134 Prospect St., Andover, OH. A funeral service will be on Thursday at 6:00 PM at the funeral home. A private burial of cremated remains will take place in Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown, OH.
