Vernon, Ohio - John H. Clifford, III, age 59, died on Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at his residence with his family by his side after a long, courageous battle with leukemia. He was born on May 23, 1951, in Morgantown, West Virginia, the son of Dorothy D. (Guthrie) and John H. Clifford, Jr. John attended Warren G. Harding High School. On July 28, 1968, he entered in the United States Army. For his service in the Vietnam Conflict, John received a purple heart. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing Yahtzee and card games,cooking, going camping, boating and fishing, doing carpentry and he loved his dog, Whitey, and cats, Smokey and Baby. Preceding John in death are his parents, and a nephew, Glenn Burris. Survivors include two daughters, Roxann M. Nicholas of Warren, Ohio and Nicole R. Clifford and fiance, John Riley, of Vienna, Ohio; two granddaughters, Alexis & Morgan Baugh; two sisters, Elma (Alfred) Kendall of Warren, Ohio and Annette (Frank) Avalos of North Carolina; two brothers, Paul (Vesta) Clifford of Warren, Ohio and Leonard (Elizabeth) Clifford of Texas and eleven nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Baumgardner Funeral Home 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio. Private burial will be held in Veterans Memorial Garden of Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Mahoning County, Ohio. Calling hours will be held on Saturday from Noon until the time of services.
