Cortland, Ohio - JOHN MOKRI, age 90, died on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at UPMC Horizon Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on June 25, 1916 in Cleveland, Ohio to Peter and Celia (Budovanec) Mokri. Mr. Mokri served in the United States Army during World War II. Formerly of Espyville, Mr. Mokri was a Cortland resident since 1999. Mr. Mokri was employed by the steel mills of Cleveland, the Rail Road in Ashtabula and most recently for Kennametal of Orwell for sixteen years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Peter & Paul's Catholic Church in Cleveland and attended St. Phillip's Catholic Church in Linesville, Pennsylvania. Mr. Mokri enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He leaves his wife of 66 years, Martha Halvalchick whom he married on August 3, 1940. Mr. Mokri is preceded in death by his parents, a son Donald P. Mokri; a brother, Steve and a sister, Julia. Survivors include his wife Martha of Cortland, Ohio; three sons, John R. and wife Andrea Mokri of South Euclid, Ohio, David J. and wife Kathie Mokri of Gustavus, Ohio, and Robert H. and wife Diane Mokri of Kinsman, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Pam and husband Steve, Heidi and husband Craig, Jonathan, Robby, Amanda, Debbie and husband John, Donny and wife Michelle and Chad; and seven great grandchildren, Matthew, David, Dylan, Yvonne, John, Josh, and Dalton. Private services will be held at the convienence of the family, followed by burial in Gustavus Cemetery.
