JOSEPH KALAS, age 82, of Gustavus township, Ohio, died Monday, March 27, 2006, at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, Ohio. He was born February 19, 1924, in Chambersville, PA, to Matthew and Elizabeth A. (Gresock) Kalas. Formerly of Greene, Mr. Kalas was a long time Gustavus township resident. He graduated from Coyne Electronics School, and was an independent television and radio repairman for many years. He also was employed by Conrail for over 38 years, retiring in 1984. In the 1940's, Mr. Kalas was involved in the construction of the Mosquito dam. He was a member of Gustavus Federated Church; the Gustavus Historical Society; and volunteered with Nesface for 15 years. Mr. Kalas enjoyed model airplanes, gardening, bowling, watching wrestling matches, and was known as the all around fix it man. Mr. Kalas is survived by his wife, Alice A. (Barry) Kalas, whom he married Oct. 23, 1944, of Gustavus; three daughters, Alice E. (Gary) Everitt of Bazetta township, OH, Diana L. (Glen) Marvin of Kinsman, OH, Shirley E. (Bill) Koppel of McDonald, OH; one son, Ronald (Patricia) Kalas of Gustavus township, OH; four brothers, Mickey Kalas of Greene, OH, George Kalas of Orwell, OH, Matthew Kalas of Greene, and Ronald Kalas of Greene; three sisters, Ella Kalas of Greene, Anna Mae Tabak of Austintown,OH, and Betsy Lesko of Kinsman, OH; and ten grandchildren, Lynn (Carl) Ray of Andover, OH, Joe Marvin of Kinsman, OH, David Everitt of Fowler, OH, Sheri (Mark) Knepel of New Albany, OH, Dawn Everitt of Aliquippa, PA, Ryan Kalas of Pullman, WA, Kara Koppel of Minneapolis, MN, Aimee (Paul) Crabtree of Farmdale, OH, Kevin Koppel of Lakewood, OH, and Erin Koppel of McDonald, OH; and three great grandchildren, Benjamin Yard of Aliquippa, PA, Jenna Ray of Andover, OH, and Sophia Johnson of Fowler, OH. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Arthur Kalas; and two sisters, Virginia Lenyo Reed and Marydell Ragalyi. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 31, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main St., Kinsman,OH. Burial will follow in Gustavus Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Thursday, March 30th from 6 to 8 P.M. and on Friday from 10 A.M. until the time of service.
