Joyce A. Schaefer, 62 years old, of Andover, Ohio, died Sunday, March 7, 2004, at home with her family. Joyce was a long time Andover resident, and formerly of Pepperell, Massachusetts. Born October 23, 1941, in Nashua, New Hampshire, she was the daughter of Osgood and Charlotte (Gray) Freeman. She was a 1959 Andover High School graduate and a 1962 graduate of the Huron Road School of Nursing in Cleveland. She worked for Ashtabula General Hospital and for Dr. Kenneth Brace in Ashtabula for many years. She was a leader in family gatherings and worked diligently to maintain family cohesion. Her concern and love for both her immediate and extended families was the main focus, passion, and primary delight of her life. Mrs. Schaefer was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson. Survivors include her husband, John P. Schaefer, whom she married in 1967; two sons, Mark, at home; and Paul (Kelly), of Toledo, Ohio; a granddaughter, Hope, of Toledo, Ohio; three brothers, Dexter Freeman of Maple Heights, OH; Paul Freeman of Andover, OH; and Keith Freeman of Augusta, Maine; and two sisters, Charlene Freeman of Richmond, OH; and Dawn Freeman of Albuquerque, NM. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2004, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect Street, Andover, Ohio. Burial of cremated remains will take place in Dart Cemetery in Richmond, Ohio, at the convenience of the family.
