At 78 years of age, KARL B. TAUCHE, SR., of Dodgeville Rd., New Lyme, Ohio, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2008, at University Hospitals of Cleveland. He was born November 13, 1929, in Monroe, Michigan, the son of Anton and Geneva (Kerr) Tauche. A lifetime area resident, Karl was a 1947 graduate of New Lyme High School. He married his sweetheart, Viola (Piontkowski), November 28, 1950, at St. Mary's Church in Orwell, Ohio. The wedding was delayed due to the Snow Storm of the Century. They were married on Tuesday rather than Saturday as originally planned. After marrying, Karl and Viola settled in New Lyme and resided initially in Karl's parent's home, until 1968 when it burned and they built a house of their own at the same location. He is survived by his two sons, Karl B. (Carolyn) Tauche, Jr. of Columbus, Ohio, and Kenneth B. Tauche of New Lyme, Ohio. He has five grandchildren who have wonderful memories of him, Brian Tauche of Fowler, Ohio, Travis Tauche of Mentor, Ohio, Bruce (Alicia Steen) Tauche of New Lyme, Ohio, the sons of Kenneth B. Tauche; Gaven Jones of Columbus, Ohio, and Julie Jones of Tempe, Arizona, the children of Karl B. Tauche, Jr. He was great grandfather to Kyra Beach and Mallory Barnette. He is also survived by a sister, Freida Inman of Richardson, Texas. Karl is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Viola, on November 19, 2007; and a sister, Hilda Jessup Carter. Karl was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Andover, where he served as a member of Parish Council and the Men's club; and he was also a member of the Youngstown Cursillo Movement. Karl was a member of the Bishop McFadden Assembly; the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Warren, Ohio; and the Knights of Columbus Council #5589, Orwell, Ohio. He also served on the board of Country Neighbor. Karl enjoyed being Santa Claus at various Christmas parties at church, visiting homes, and nursing homes. He loved attending the Ashtabula County Antique Engine Show annually; and had a love of farming. In his retirement years, Karl loved to travel with his wife and grandchildren seeing many sites in the United States and Italy. He especially loved his trips to Hawaii and Rome, Italy, where he attended a Mass where the Pope presided. Karl and Viola had an "open door" policy at their home. Anyone in a difficult situation was welcome to stay with them, and many did. They were always quick to lend a helping hand.
