Kinsman, Ohio – Kathryn Marie Waters, age 96, died on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, with her family by her side. She was born on April 10, 1918 in Fremont, Ohio, a daughter of Ethel Mae (Hill) and Harry Samuel Kinsey. Mrs. Waters was a 1935 graduate of Minneapolis High School, a 1939 graduate of Emporia State Teachers College and a 1942 graduate of Kansas School of Nursing. She served in the United States Navy from 1942 until 1946. Having served in the Pacific Theater, Mrs. Waters was stationed at Pearl Harbor, where she was the private nurse for Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz. She was privileged to meet, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt on her visit to wounded veterans at Pearl Harbor. On February 20, 1946 she married Cloyd E. “Cliff” Waters. Mrs. Waters was Dr. Berry’s nurse in Kinsman for many years. She was known for running the Kinsman Dairy Oasis and assisted her husband in book keeping for their John Deere Dealership in Kinsman. Mrs. Waters was a member of the Kinsman United Methodist Church since 1954, where she taught Sunday School, was involved in the church’s missions and served on almost every committee of the church. She supported the Kinsman American Legion, babysat for over ten years, enjoyed reading, sewing and playing piano. Mrs. Waters is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of sixty years, Cliff Waters; a daughter Carol Lee Waters and a sister, Mary Kinsey Kuhn, M.D. Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn L. (Barry) Fraser of Rockford, Michigan and Jill D. (Kevin) Dickey of North Lima, Ohio; two sons, Bradford M. (Poksun) Waters of Kuna, Idaho and Larry K. (Mary Beth) Waters of Kinsman, Ohio and eight grandchildren, Katie (Patrick), David (Meagan), Michael, Sam, Cliff, Jenalee, Kyle and Alex. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11:00am at the Kinsman Methodist Church, 8362 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio, with Rev. David McKinnon officiating. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 31st at the church from 10:00am until the time of services. Private burial will follow in Kinsman Cemetery.
