Greenville, Pennsylvania Laura Aleeta Service, age 104, a longtime Andover resident, died on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 peacefully with her family by her side. She was born on October 30, 1902 in a log cabin in Transfer, Pennsylvania to George Alvin and Laura Belle (Nutt) Mowry. Mrs. Service was a 1921 graduate of Transfer High School and a 1924 graduate of Youngstown School of Nursing. She worked at Youngstown Southside Hospital until she married and moved to Andover. There she was able to do private duty nursing and assisted the local physicians. She married Harry S. Service on April 16, 1927 and after 37 years he died on April 21, 1964. In addition to nursing Mrs. Service spent her life on a farm. She grew up on the family farm in Transfer, Pennsylvania, met and later married the â�œmilk testerâ₝ and helped with the daily happenings of the farm in Andover, and was well known for her Saturday morning delivery of fresh eggs. Mrs. Service was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Andover for over 70 years. She served as superintendent and taught Sunday school for many years, and was also active in the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Mardi Club of Andover, the Andover 55 and Over Club, Andover Farm Bureau, the Andover Grange, and was a Red Hatter with the ladies from St. Paulâ�™s, Ridgewood. Doing cross-stitch, embroidery work, baking, gardening and following the Cleveland Indians were among the things she enjoyed doing. Along with her husband she is preceded in death by a son H. William Service, an infant brother Sherman; four sisters, Hazel Bacon, Elizabeth Sutton, Lorena Smock, and Edith Braham; two brothers Chester and Leon Mowry. Survivors include a daughter Marjorie E. Fenton of Andover, Ohio; daughter-in-law Ruth Mary Service of Andover; two granddaughters, Gail L. (Steve) Cochoff of Hudson, Ohio and Donna L. (Robert) Neff of Quarryville, Pennsylvania; and great grandchildren, Katrina and Christopher Cochoff and Haley Neff. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at Noon at the First United Methodist Church of Andover on Main Street, with Rev. Peter Elencovf officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Saturday, June 2nd from 11:00 AM until the time of services at noon.
