Kinsman, Ohio - Lewis S. McCartney, age 84, died on Sunday, November 7, 2010, at Windsor House of Champion from complications of Alzheimer�s disease. He was born on May 15, 1926, in Sandy Lake, Pennsylvania, the son of Mary (Caldwell) and Jay McCarteny. Lewie attended Linesville High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in Italy with the 86th Ord. H.A.M. Company. On November 27, 1948 he married Evelyn L. McQuiston. In 1961 he moved to Kinsman, Ohio where he owned and operated along with his wife, Isaly�s Store and later McCartney�s restaurant until 1977. In mid 1977 he became the owner and operator of the Kinsman Dairi Oasis until 1988. Lewie drove truck for Target Stamped Products of Kinsman and retired in 1989. He was a member of the Kinsman United Methodist Church, a fifty year member of the Linesville Pine Masonic Lodge No. 498 F & A.M. and was past president of the Kinsman volunteer Fire Department. He owned and loved to tinker with his Model A, enjoyed traveling and visited all fifty states, and he always enjoyed spending time with his family. Lewie is preceded in death by his parents and a sister Suzanne Hovis. Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Evelyn L. McCartney of Kinsman, Ohio; two daughters, Jacque K. (Dennis) Piper and Sherry L. (Thomas) Betts both of Kinsman, Ohio; five grandchildren, Carrie, Troy, Lewis (Tonya), Josh (Samantha) and Cody (Jennifer); six great grandchildren, Keily, Orion Kooper, Carson, Nate and Gabe; two sisters, Bonnie (John) Farley of Linesville, Pennsylvania and June (Merle) Foster of Norrisville, Pennsylvania; a brother, William (Karen) Hovis PhD of Oxford, Pennsylvania and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 11:00am at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio, with Rev. David McKinnon officiating. Private burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, New Vernon, Pennsylvania. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2010 from 5:00 until 7:00pm. Masonic services will be held at the funeral home at 7:00pm Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kinsman United Methodist Church, PO Box 456, Kinsman, OH 44428.
