Lewis Branson Smith

Johnston, Ohio - L. Branson Smith, age 88, died on Monday, June 4, 2007, in Warren, Ohio. He was born on July 27, 1918 in Adena, Ohio to Albert and Elizabeth (Hall) Smith. Mr. Smith was a 1935 graduate of Friends Boarding School in Barnesville, Ohio. Formerly of Mantua, Ohio, Mr. Smith was a resident of Johnston, for the past forty-five years. While in Mantua, he owned and operated a Jersey dairy farm. For over thirty-five years, Mr. Smith was employed by the Ohio Agriculture Services as a supervisor in milk testing, serving Trumbull, Ashtabula, Portage and Geauga counties. He married Joyce M. Watson on March 6, 1940. He attended the Johnston Federated Church, was a member of the Trumbull County Farm Bureau, and the Animal Welfare League. Mr. Smith enjoyed raising Old English Sheep dogs. He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Cindy A . DiPaola; two sisters, Margaret Harmon and Mabel Gourley. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joyce M. Smith of Johnston, Ohio; a daughter, Pamela A. Smith of Johnston, Ohio; and a son, Paul L. Smith of Mantua, Ohio; a granddaughter Tasha Ragalyi; a sister Kay Smith of Medford, Oregon; and two brothers, Albert (Charlotte) Smith of Kent, Ohio and Carl (Dorothy) Smith of Barnesville, Ohio; and two dogs, Angel and Fella. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Johnston Federated Church, 6262 State Route 193, Johnston, Ohio. Calling hours will be held one hour prior from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made through the family for the Johnston Fire Department or the Trumbull County Holstein Association.
