Gustavus, Ohio - M. Alice Riley, age 100, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 4, 2010, at her home. She was born on June 6, 1910, in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Myrtle (Nicholls) and Finis Peters. Mrs. Riley began her education in a one room school house, graduated from Orient High School, in Iowa and earned a Bachelor�s degree in education from Simpson College in 1930 at the age of twenty. She taught music in Iowa for ten years. On July 26, 1940, she married Dr. Rev. Bruce T. Riley. They moved to Gustavus, Ohio in 1954. She taught at Youngstown College, then from 1952 until she retired in 1972 she taught within the surrounding school districts. Mrs. Riley was a member of the Gustavus Federated Church. She served on the Family Service Board for six years and served as Trustee for the Kinsman Free Public Library for twenty-one years. Mrs. Riley was a member of the D.A.R., O.E.S., Gustavus Historical Society, Gustavus Grange, Gustavus Community Aid, Gustavus U and I Club, Ohio Cultural Alliance, American Carriage Association and the Philosophy circle at Youngstown State University. Mrs. Riley is preceded in death by her parents, by her husband of forty-six years, Dr. Rev. Bruce T. Riley; an infant brother, Arthur Peters; three brothers, Bruce, Raymond and Richard Peters. Survivors include two daughters, Alice E. (Ken) Kraus of Marysville, Ohio and Margaret A. (Paul) Neves of Fort Collins, Colorado; a step-daughter, Patricia Irwin of Boulder, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Dirk and Matthew Kraus, Daniel and Luiz Neves, and Laurie, Christy and Dave Irwin; and nine great grandchildren, Ryan and Nichole Sellden, Ashley Gallovich, Noah Irwin, Jayden, Riley and Alia Kraus, and David and Nicholas Neves. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at 2:30pm at the Gustavus Federated Church 8850 State Route 193, Gustavus, Ohio, with Rev. Karl Bucey officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield, Iowa. Calling hours will be on Saturday, November 6, 2010 from 2:00pm until 5:00pm at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio.
