Marcena Q. Dilley

Cortland, Ohio - Marcena Q. Dilley, age 88, died on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at her home. She was born December 24, 1926, in Kinsman, Ohio, to Arner H. and Geraldine (Coursen) Queale. A long time Cortland and Lake Vista resident, Mrs. Dilley was formerly of Andover, Ohio. She was a graduate of Kinsman High School and Kent State University. She was employed for 35 years as a school teacher in the Ashtabula City Schools, Orwell Schools, Rock Creek Schools, and she retired in 1982 from Pymatuning Valley Schools. She then went on to be employed by Anderson Coach & Travel Co. in Greenville, Pennsylvania, as a tour director from 1985 until 2004. Mrs. Dilley was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ashtabula and the First Presbyterian Church in Warren. She served on the Ashtabula County Board of Education from 1984 until 2003. She was a 1972 Martha Holden Jennings Outstanding Teacher’s Award Winner. Mrs. Dilley more recently served on the board and has been chairman of the Lake Vista Advisory Board from 2004 to 2006. Her hobbies included reading and traveling. Mrs. Dilley married Robert L. Dilley on June 4, 1948, and he preceded her in death on June 22, 1977. Also preceding her in death are her brother, Howard Queale, and her two sisters, Mary Williams and Ruth Mason. She is survived by her daughter, Zee (David) Altizer of Spokane, Washington; her son, Daniel E. Dilley of Lexington, North Carolina; niece, Linda Lauer of Kinsman, Ohio; two grandchildren, Brian Altizer and Teresa Lyons; and three great grandchildren, Bretton, Sydney, and Meridian. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at3:00 PM at the Lake Vista Club House, 303 Mecca St.(St. Rt. 46), Cortland, Ohio, with Rev. Duane Jesse officiating. Even in death Mrs. Dilley will continue to help educate others by being a body donor to the Cleveland Clinic for the advancement of medical science.
