Mary Alice Evans, age 69, of Andover, OH, died Sunday, July 12, 2009 at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA. She was born August 6, 1939, in Columbus, OH, the daughter of Edward and Alice Mary (Phalen) Backlawski. A resident of Andover for the past thirty years, Mrs. Evans was formerly of Cleveland where she was a graduate of Holy Name Catholic High School. She was employed by Bailey Meter Co. in Wickliffe for ten years; Lake Shore Resort and Waterslides in Andover for many years; and Tri-Delta Manufacturing in Mentor for several years. Mrs. Evans was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church in Andover. Her hobbies included crocheting, gambling, going to the race tracks, swimming, and she loved to color with her granddaughter, Alicia. She also was an avid animal lover. Mrs. Evans is survived by her husband, Jack E. Evans, whom she married April 8, 1971, of Andover; three daughters, Kyran (Bob) Chorba, of Cleveland,OH, Linda (Doug) Sowash of Greenville, PA, and Christine Evans of Andover; seven grandchildren, Robert, Ryan, Alicia, Billy, Johnny, Jimmy, and Trista; and seven great grandchildren, Diamond, Aaliyah, Taylor, Haley, Kaylee, Alishia,and Clair. She is preceded in death by her parents. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 5:00 P.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover, OH.
