Mary Eleanor Tretera

Gustavus, Ohio - Mary Eleanor (Owen) Tretera, age 95, died at her daughters home, on Tuesday, January 10, 2012, with her family by her side. She was born on June 12, 1916, in North Bloomfield, Ohio a daughter of Catherine Isabel (Crouch) and Charles Arthur Smith. Mary attended school in Greene and later became a cook at Greene School. She also was employed by Swenehart Zero Lockers formerly of Cortland, Ohio and she was a press operator for Johnson Rubber of Middlefield, Ohio for over twenty years before she retired. Mary was a member of the former Greene Grange and was active in supporting the Kinsman Senior Center. She enjoyed doing crafts, embroidery, cross stitching vegetable and flower gardening and puzzle books, attending annual family reunions and traveling. Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Glenn W. Owen; her second husband, Rudolph W. Tretera; two infant sisters, Alice and Josephine Smith; four sisters, Arlene Brownlee, Helen Herbert, Evelyn Meister and Dorothy Stevens; three brothers, Arthur, Emerson, and Robert Smith; a step-daughter, Marge Brown; two nieces and four nephews. Survivors include three daughters, Leona F. (Harold) Kagy of Greene, Ohio, Charlotte J. (Leroy) Noble of Cortland, Ohio, where Mary resided for the past seven months and Jean A. Slawinski of Vienna, Ohio; six grandchildren, Kenneth (Madeleine) Kagy, Janice (Tim) Goss, Debra Slawinski, Michael (Andrea) Slawinski, Marcia (John) Albert and Robert Slawinski; one sister, Phyllis Smith of Vienna, Ohio; three brothers, Fredrick, Gene, Earl Smith all of Gustavus, Ohio; two step-daughters, Jean (Ed) Blasko and Elsie (John) Mossburg; three step-sons, Rudolph (Ruth) Tretera, Douglas (Karen) Tretera and Roger (Laura) Tretera; seven great grandchildren; twenty-one step grandchildren; many great step grandchildren and step great great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 11:00am at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio, with Pastor James W. Smith, officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 13th from 5:00pm until 7:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kinsman Nutritional Site.
