Springfield, Missouri - Matilda E. "Tillie" Sevon, 97, died on February 8, 2006, in Springfield, Missouri. She was born on May 14, 1908 in Clarksburg, West Virginia to Francis Walter and Margaret E. (Redfox) Smith, and graduated from high school there. She married William D. Sevon on September 6, 1930. Tillie clerked for the former D. W. Bell clothing company of Andover. She was the local correspondent for the Ashtabula Star Beacon, collected information for the Gallup Poll for many years, and was on the Ashtabula County T.B. and Health Board for over 25 years. For over ten years Tillie volunteered her time at Miller Memorial Nursing Home, teaching residents to paint. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Andover where she was active in the Methodist Women Faith Circle and the Rainbow Challenger Class. Tillie was the Past Matron and a sixty year member of the former Floral Chapter #54 Order of Eastern Star, a charter member of the Covered Bridge Chapter #591. She was a member of the Mardi Club, and the former Mother's Club of Andover. Tillie was involved in 4-H where she was an advisor for 33 years, and served three years on the State 4-H board in Columbus, and is recognized on the Wall of Fame in the County Extension 4-H building in Jefferson. She was the recipient of 1963 Rotary Citizens Award and the 1996 Chamber of Commerce Brenda Merrill Award. Tillie enjoyed traveling, photography and painting. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill on July 25, 1996, a sister Eva Lippencott; brothers, Edward Smith and Encil Joe Smith, and great uncle and aunt Elmer and Josephine Henderson who raised her. Survivors include her son, William David Sevon of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; grandsons, Douglass W. and Mary Sevon of Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania, David H. and Lori Sevon of Springfield, Missouri; great grandsons, William, Tyler, Tanner and Turner; great granddaughter, Anne, and nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2006, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Peter Elencovf and Rev. David Miller officiating. Burial of cremated remains will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Andover, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Andover, PO Box 207, Andover, Ohio 44003 or the 4-H scholarship fund of Jefferson, 39 Wall Street, Jefferson, Ohio 44047.
