Michael J. Kopchek, age 90, of Lakeland, FL, died Sunday, March 20, 2005, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was born March 15, 1915, to John and Barbara (Liptak) Kopchek in Duquesne, PA. Mr. Kopchek was formerly of Andover, moving to Lakeland 28 years ago. He was employed as a purchasing agent for Dow Chemical. He was an Army veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific Theater, stationed at Hickam Field in Hawaii on December 7, 1941. Mr. Kopchek was a member of the Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church in Lakeland; a member of the Georgetown Mobile Manor Shuffle Club; and he enjoyed playing cards and bingo. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Shukaitis Kopchek; and second wife, Gladys Smock Kopchek; a brother, John Kopchek; and two sisters, Mary McEwen and Helen Kopchek. He is survived by his step son, Harry Smock of Andover, OH; three step daughters, Wanda Britton of Crawfordville, FL; Lois Burns of Andover, OH; and Shirley Corlew of Ashtabula, OH; many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; his companion, Norma Moore of Lakeland, FL; a niece, Patricia Dangerfield of Texas; and two nephews, John McEwen of Texas and Bruce McEwen of Ohio. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2005, at 11:00a.m. at Cherry Valley Cemetery, St. Rt. 6, where burial of cremated remains will take place.
