Mildred Josephine (Schwarzenberg) Betts, age 93, of Andover, Ohio, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2015, at her home surrounded by family. She was born April 9,1922, in Struthers, Ohio, the daughter of Emma (Miloskovski) Schwarzenberg and Josef Schwarzenberg. She grew up in Wayne township, attended the Wayne School and graduated from Williamsfield High School in 1940. In her youth she was active in 4-H and attended the 4-H State Style Revue for her complete outfit. She was an excellent piano player and enjoyed accompanying her brothers on their trumpets. She married Arthur R. Betts on June 8, 1941; and they moved to the Betts family farm on Stanhope-Kelloggsville Rd. in Andover. Mildred was active in the First United Methodist Church of Andover serving as pianist, Sunday School teacher, nursery worker, Youth Choir director, Faith Circle member and Rotary dinner worker. She worked at the General Electric Plant in Andover as a bulb inspector for more than 25 years. She was a 4-H leader for a sewing and cooking club for many years as well as being active in Grange and Farm Bureau. Survivors include her three daughters, Kathy (Ralph) Smith of Wayne township, Ohio, Karen (Hubert) Deaton of Great Falls, Virginia, and Karlene (Dave) Black of Wadsworth, Ohio; her son, Karl (Bonnie) Betts of Andover, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Mary Beth (Dr. Bivik) Shah, R.C. (Saundra) Smith, Elisabeth Deaton, Brandon (Emma) Smith, Evangeline (Michael) Keller, Larissa Deaton, Katie N. Betts, and Eric J. Black; her three great grandchildren, Zoe S. Smith, Chance R. Smith, and Ryder C. Smith; and her special sister-in-law, Lois Williams Betts. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, Arthur; her two sisters, Ruth Schwarzenberg and Helen McMillian; three brothers, George, Fred, and Bob Schwarzenberg; a special friend, Marjorie Martin; and special sister-in-law, Alice Betts Fetters. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2015, at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 181 S. Main St., Andover, OH, with Rev. Ric Harvel officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Andover. Calling hours will be Wednesday, August 5th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the church.
