Andover, Ohio - Mildred A. Graves, age 91, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 26, 2012. She was born on May 18, 1921, in Annandale, Pennsylvania, daughter of Stella M. (Card) and Claude G. Ayling. An Andover resident since 1943, Mrs. Graves graduated from Chautauqua High School where she played on the basketball team and then attended Ohio Northern University. On June 27, 1942 she married Roland J. Graves. Mrs. Graves was the assistant Treasurer and Branch Manager at the People's Savings & Loan formerly of Andover, having served twenty-three years and retired in 1983. She was a member of the Andover First United Methodist Church. She was the Past President of the Parent Teacher's Association and a member of the Mardi Club of Andover. In her earlier years, she enjoyed camping, playing bridge, quilting and was an avid golfer. While her husbnd was alive she enjoyed traveling. Her travels continued up until her age prevented her from doing so. She, much to her delight, recently traveled to Chautauqua, NY, "her old stomping ground" staying with her sister-in-law, Izetta Ayling revisiting many places of her youth. Mildred knitted and crocheted all her grandchildren beautiful afghans and her great grandchildren, along with those in need, mittens. Many a cold hand will be kept warm because of her. Mrs. Graves is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roland J. Graves; and two brothers, Leslie and Kenneth Ayling. Survivors include James K. ( Susan) Graves of Burlington, New Jersey and Gary A. (Gail) Graves of Dorset, Ohio; four grandchildren, Lisa (Jason) Gawlak, Amy, Steven (Jennifer) and Adam (April) Graves and seven great grandchildren; Russell & Amelia Gawlak, Allison, Justin, Jaxson, Zackary and Tessa Graves. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at 1:00 PM at the Andover First United Methodist Church, 181 South Main Street, Andover, Ohio, with Pastor Vernon Palo officiating. Burial of cremated remains will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Andover, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church, PO Box 207, Andover, OH 44003.
