Kinsman, Ohio – N. Darl Britton, age 92, died on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 29, 1924 in Ashtabula, Ohio, a son of Elsie Jane (Fonner) and Herbert Kline Britton. Darl graduated from Williamsfield High School in 1942 and served in the United States Merchant Marines, making five trips across the Atlantic Ocean. He was a truck driver all his life working for the former Farm Bureau of Williamsfield; a milk route for the former Sealtest Dairy of Farmdale; driving for over seventeen years for McGill Septic Tank of Kinsman and finally for Cortland Tractor for over twenty-two years, retiring in 1989. On June 5, 1946 he married Arlene May Goodge. Darl was a member of the Williamsfield United Methodist Church, a founding member of the Ohio Maple Producers Association, a life member of the Ashtabula County Antique Engine Club in Wayne, Ohio and a member of the Sharon American Legion, Post No. 299. Every year including the spring of 2016, Darl could be found tapping and collecting sap from his neighbor’s maple trees to cook down into maple syrup, with the enlisted help of three generations of his family and the neighborhood children. He enjoyed farming and gardening as well as spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and with the great great grandchildren. Darl is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of fifty-six years, Arlene May Britton, who died on September 1, 2002; an infant daughter, Barbara Sue Britton; an infant son, Andrew Charles Britton; a son Ray. H. “Butch” Britton and a brother, D. Lyle Britton. Survivors include his two daughters, Susan Britton McGill of Hubbard, Ohio and Mildred Elaine Gregg of Kinsman, Ohio; a brother, Rev. C. Keith Britton of Fort Collins, Colorado; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Graveside Services with Military Honors will be on Monday, November 21, 2016 at 1:00pm at Williamsfield Center Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 20th from 2:00pm until 4:00pm at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio.
