Noble K. Hopkins, age 88, of Kinsman, Ohio, died Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at the Andover Village Retirement Community. He was born April 23, 1922, in Nelson Township, OH, a son of Ransom E. and Ruth (Albaugh) Hopkins. Mr. Hopkins was a 1940 graduate of Nelson High School; and married Vera (Criblez) on August 23, 1940. From 1944 to 1954 he worked on a dairy farm in Hiram, OH, and then bought the family farm in Nelson in 1954. He drove school bus for the James A. Garfield School District in Portage County for 5 years. In 1965, Mr. Hopkins bought a dairy farm in Williamsfield, OH where he continued to farm until his retirement. A long time Kinsman resident, Mr. Hopkins had resided at the home of his granddaughter, Julie Hamilton, prior to being a resident of Andover Village Retirement Community. Mr. Hopkins served on the Portage County Soil and Water Conservation Board; the Advisory Board of the Portage County Agricultural Extension Office; and was a Trustee for Nelson Township for 13 years. He was a lifetime member of the Holstein-Friesian Association of America; served as past president of the Ashtabula County Holstein Club; and was a farmer delegate to several dairy milk marketing Co-Op organizations. The Hopkins family was honored as an Outstanding Dairy family in Ashtabula County in 1982; and they hosted the first Ashtabula Dairy Day in the 1970�s. He received the Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award from the Ashtabula County Farm Bureau in 1999. Mr. Hopkins was a member of the Grange for over 60 years, the Farm Bureau for over 50 years; and was a charter member of the Laker Ruritan Community Service Club. He was a lifetime member of the Williamsfield United Methodist Church, where he was very active serving in various positions; and served as a member of the Williamsfield Zoning Board of Appeals for several years. Mr. Hopkins is survived by two daughters, Louise (William) Adams of Ravenna, OH, and Linda (Bruce) Hite of Ravenna, OH; two sons, Loren (Barbara) Hopkins of Kinsman, OH, and Daniel (Dorothy) Hopkins of Brookfield, OH; two sisters, Judith Hotard of Covina, CA, and Virginia Moore of Ravenna, OH; 9 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great granddaughter. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vera Hopkins on August 2, 2002; 2 great granddaughters, Jessica Hopkins and Larie Marshall; and a brother, Myron Hopkins;. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 31, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover,Ohio. Burial will follow in Williamsfield Center Cemetery.
