Paul A. McCarty, age 56, of Andover, Ohio, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at the Cleveland Clinic. He was born July 20, 1953, in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, a son of John B. and Margaret L. (Benke) McCarty. A long time Andover resident, Paul was a 1971 graduate of Charleroi High School. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education in 1975 from Clarion State College, where he was a member of Kappa Kappa Psi. Paul was employed by Pymatuning Valley Schools in Andover for thirty years as a teacher and director of the choir and concert, marching, and jazz bands. He touched the lives of many students and was loved by them all. Paul was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Andover, where he was active in the choir and many cantatas. He served on various committees at church; served as youth director with his wife, Tammy, for a few years; and was a member of the "Joyful Noise" ensemble. Paul was a member of the Warren Federation of Musicians; was a member of the Triandria Lodge #0780, F & AM, Rock Creek; and was a social member of the Conneaut Lake Park V.F.D. He was active in the W.D. Packard concert band; and was a member of the former Ashtabula Symphonic Band. Paul enjoyed sharing his trumpet playing talent at many school and community functions and events. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Tammy D. (Beach) McCarty, whom he married July 8, 1978, of Andover; his daughter, Heather L. McCarty of Charleston, SC; his brother, David W. (Michele) McCarty of State College, PA; his nephew, Michael (Kristen) McCarty of Pleasant Gap, PA; and many sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws. He is preceded in death by his parents. A Celebration of Paul's life will be on Monday, July 12, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church, 181 S. Main St., Andover, Ohio. Calling hours will be on Sunday, July 11, 2010 from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM at the church.
