She taught in the Grand Valley Local Schools, Joseph Badger Local Schools, and in the Alaskan villages of Hydaburg (Haida Indians), Kaltag (Athabascan Indians), and St. Mary's (Eskimoes). In Hydaburg, Pearl was adopted into the Eagle Clan. Pearl was a superb seamstress; wove wonderful, meaningful rugs; beaded beautifully; and could cook expertly anything from Evan's garden, hunting, or trapping. She loved to sit down with a good apple and a good book.
