Age 92, currently of Hartland Township, MI passed away Thursday, October 18, 2012. Born April 13, 1920 in Cokeburg, PA, he was the son of Frank and Mary Hunkus. Formerly of Vernon, and Kinsman, OH, Peter was an MI resident for the past five years, and also lived in Collierville, TN and Belleview, FL over the last few decades. Mr. Hunkus was a 1936 graduate of Vernon High School in Vernon, OH, WWII Army Combat Engineers veteran and recipient of an EAME Theater Ribbon with five bronze stars having landed at Normandy and served in five major campaigns in the European Theater - Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and Ardennes - with no days lost. He was a retired Farmer and Millwright for the former Schaffer Equipment Co. of Warren, OH. Peter was also a former volunteer fireman for the Burghill, OH fire department and member of the Gustavus, OH Masonic Lodge No. 442. Beloved husband of Adelaide (Boeving) Hunkus whom he married in Castle Shannon, PA on September 5, 1948. Loving father of Pete (Marjorie) Hunkus of Kinsman, OH, Darrae (Terry) Shoenberger of Hartland, MI, Stephen Hunkus of Collerville, TN and Michael (Candy) Hunkus of Bellville, FL, He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and many family and friends. He will be greatly missed, and remembered for the wonderful loving man he was. Funeral services with Veteran Honors will be on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the Kinsman Presbyterian Church at 11:00 AM with remembrance from 10:00 AM. Calling Hours will be on Friday, November 9, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio. Interment to follow at the family plot at West View Cemetery in Vernon, OH, with fellowship & remembrance over lunch back at the Presbyterian Church immediately after. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society
