Peter Kurka, age 88, of Andover, died Sunday, August 30, 2009, at Geauga Assisted Living Center in Montville,OH. He was born Feb. 4,1921, in McDonaldton,PA, the son of Roman and Catherine Kurka. Formerly of Cleveland, Mr. Kurka had been a long time resident of Andover. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II as a Navy SEAL. He retired in 1983 from Eagle International, the former International Harvester, after 17 years of service. His hobbies included fishing and hunting. Mr. Kurka married Helen L. (Adams) on August 21, 1965. She died Dec. 16, 1998. He is also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joseph Kurka; three sisters, Susan Flanders, Catherine Evanchuck, and Virginia Buczak. Survivors include his daughter, Catherine S. (Steve) Tokay of Andover; step daughter, Elaine Peters of Medina,OH; two step sons, Ronald Gifford of Logan,OH, and Rick Gifford of Cleveland,OH; his brother, Stanley Kurka of Tocoma, WA; three grandchildren, Stephen Tokay,Jr., Karra Tokay, and Laryssa Tokay; seven step grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
