Phyllis Jean Gerlach

Andover, Ohio - Phyllis Jean Gerlach, age 83 of Andover, Ohio died on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was born on October 14, 1932 in Cleveland, Ohio, a daughter of Gertrude (Smith) and Theodore Teubner, Sr. Mrs. Gerlach was a 1950 graduate of Medina High School. On February 14, 1953 she married Jay Daniel Gerlach, Sr. She is a member of the Harvest Baptist Church of Greenville, Pennsylvania, and she was a member of the SOWER (Service On Wheels Ever Ready) Group. Mr. and Mrs. Gerlach together raised twenty-six foster children, and they made time to visit the elderly. She had a studio where she taught music including accordion lessons. Mrs. Gerlach loved to read and write letters, she enjoyed gardening, canning and freezing produce. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of sixty years, Jay Daniel Gerlach, Sr.; a granddaughter, Kimberly Amidon and a brother, Theodore Teubner, Jr. Survivors include three daughters, Vicky (Steve) Amidon of Andover, Ohio, Linda (Rev. R. Daniel, Jr.) Hammond of Beaverdale, Pennsylvania and Fay (Dan) Burnett of Andover, Ohio; two sons, Jay Daniel (Tammy) Gerlach, Jr. of Cherry Valley, Ohio and Todd A. (Michelle) Gerlach of Creston, Ohio; a brother, Jack (Pam) Teubner of Medina, Ohio; nineteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Harvest Baptist Church, 516 East Jamestown Road, Greenville, Pennsylvania, 16125. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 31st from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Private burial will be in Rock Ridge Cemetery, in West Salem Township, Pennsylvania. . In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in care of the Gerlach family, to assist at the local nursing home ministries or to the Harvest Baptist Church.
