Phyllis M. Smith

Phyllis M. Smith, age 80, of Vienna, OH, died Saturday, October 24, 2015, at home. She was born October 19, 1935, in Youngstown, OH, a daughter of Arlene S. Brownlee, and was raised by Charles A. and Katherine (Crouch) Smith. A resident of Vienna for the past 10 years, Phyllis had been a former resident of Mecca township since 1968. She served in Women's Army Corps (WAC) from 1953 until 1955 in the 14th Army WAC band playing the French horn. Phyllis was employed as an artist cutter at Packard Electric in both the Cortland and Warren plants for 30 years, retiring in 1991. She was a former member of St. Robert's Catholic Church in Cortland, and was currently attending St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Vienna. She enjoyed playing Bingo, crocheting, and knitting. Phyllis always had a sharp wit and was a fun person to be around. She is survived by a brother, Earl E. Smith of Gustavus township, OH; her nephew with whom she made her home, Christopher (Wendy) Gibson of Vienna; niece, Erica Gibson of Las Vegas, NV; and numerous other nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her six sisters, Evelyn Meister, Alice Smith, Marguerite Smith, Mary Tretera, Helen Herbert, and Dorothy Stevens; and her five brothers, Robert, Gene, Fred, Charles, and Emerson Smith. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at 12:00 PM at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main St., Kinsman, OH. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery, Vernon township, Ohio. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
