Rae E. Davies, 90 years old, of Andover, Ohio, died on Thursday, December 30, 2004, in UPMC Horizon Hospital in Greenville, PA. Mrs. Davies was born on June 20, 1914, in Youngstown, Ohio, to the late Gerald Freeland Hammond and the late Hazel (McCreary) Hammond. Formerly of Youngstown, Mrs. Davies had lived in Andover since 1968. She was a graduate of South High School in Youngstown, and also of Lake Erie College in Painesville, where she received her teaching degree in Physical Education and Music. Mrs. Davies was employed by the Youngstown City Schools as a Physical Education teacher, and also by Vargo Realty as an agent. Her heart was dedicated to volunteer work; she enjoyed playing the organ and piano at Miller Memorial Health Care Center in Andover for the residents. She was a member of the Shubert Club in Andover; was a founding member of the Progress Study Club; served on the board of the Youngstown YWCA for many years; she chaired the Community Chest Agency in Youngstown; was a member of the Girl Scouts Troop #1 of Mahoning County; and she belonged to the Mahoning Garden Club and Federated Women's Club. She was also an avid Bridge player. Mrs. Davies attended the First United Methodist Church of Andover for many years, where she was a member of their choir. Mrs. Davies married John L. Davies, III, on September 23, 1939. He died June 21, 1965. Also preceding her in death are her son, John L. "Jack" Davies, IV, on November 4, 2002; and her brother, Robert Martin Hammond. She is survived by her daughter, Jeri Crossland Davies Bell (Mrs. Richard W.) of Poland, OH; her son, Thomas McCreary Davies of Andover, OH; her three grandsons, Derek Crossland Bell of Poland, OH; Jason Freeland Bell of Fort Wayne, IN; and Timothy Davies Bell of Poland, OH; and her granddaughter, Laura James Bell of Poland, OH. A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 3, 2005, at 2:30p.m. at Lake Park Cemetery, 1459 East Midlothian Blvd., Youngstown, Ohio. Calling hours will be on Sunday, January 2nd from 3p.m. to 5p.m. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover, Ohio, and also on Monday from 1:30p.m. to 2:30p.m. at Lake Park Cemetery chapel.
