Ralph M. Rice

Ralph M. Rice, age 75, died on Wednesday, March 03, 2010, after a brief illness. He was born on November 4, 1934, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Ollie May (McPheron) and Walter Glenn Rice. A 1952 graduate of Vernon High School, Mr. Rice was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Rice was a member of the United States Army. He was a truck driver for L.T. Harnett Trucking Company for many years and retired in 2007. On June 20, 1999, he married Ethel M. Holmes. Mr. Rice was a member of the Vernon United Methodist Church and Cortland Moose Lodge. He enjoyed spending time with his dog Sprite, traveling, working in his yard and garden and cutting wood. Mr. Rice is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Barbara A. Rice; a sister, Opal Suhar and two nephews, Eugene Rice and Bryan Clute. Survivors include his wife, Ethel M. Rice of Greenville, Pennsylvania; three daughters, Meghan Diamond of Walnut Creek California, Judith A. Tullis of Niles, Ohio and Catherine M. Fraley of Howland, Ohio; a son, John W. (Karen) Rice of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, three grandsons, Sean Tullis, Darren and Dustin Fraley; his former son in law, Howard Fraley; two sisters, Bertha (Edward) Clute of Kinsman, Ohio and Dorothy Fields of Fredericksburg, Virginia; a brother, Douglas (Jean) Rice of Jamestown, Pennsylvania; his brother in law, John Suhar of Kinsman, Ohio; two step daughters, Renee Adams and Kathy Sankey and four step sons, John, Bill, Ron and Jeff Conner. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 11:00am at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio. Burial will follow in Rock Ridge Cemetery in West Salem Township, Pennsylvania. Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 5th from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home.
