Cortland, Ohio - Ralph H. Smith, age 90, died on Friday, February 3, 2012, at his daughter's home in Cortland, Ohio, where he was residing for the past three years. He was born on January 4, 1922, in Meadville, Pennsylvania, the son of Zora A. (Perry) and Charles S. Smith. He was a 1940 graduate of Meadville High School. A Kinsman resident since 1957, Mr. Smith served in the United States Army, during World War II. Mr. Smith was a Crane Operator for Westinghouse Electric Corporation of Sharon, Pennsylvania for over seventeen years, having retired in 1982. He also was employed by Standard Oil of Ohio for over seven years of Youngstown and Cleveland, Ohio, where he was a tank truck driver. Mr. Smith was an active member of the Kinsman United Methodist Church and of the Harry Lees American Legion Post No. 506 where he has been a member since 1957. He was a life member of the Kinsman Volunteer Fire Department where he was formerly Assistant Chief for many years. Mr. Smith enjoyed building scale models of farms, fire departments. He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Roseanne (Kircher) Smith whom he married on April 19, 1944 and who died on March 31, 1950. He married his second wife M. Ruth (Evans) Smith on August 5 1950 and she died on November 11, 2010; a grandson, Troy Coxson; great grandsons, Cullen Hodges and Alec Dziedzic and two brothers, Robert and Cletus Smith. Survivors include four daughters, Sharon J. Hopkins of Cortland, Ohio, Elaine M. Mathews of Fowler, Ohio, Margaret L. Stiles of Emmitt, Michigan and Rebecca M. Coxson of Kinsman, Ohio; a son Ronald C. Smith of Kinsman, Ohio; twelve grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 1:00pm at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio, with Rev. David J. McKinnon officiating. Burial will follow in Kinsman Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 8th, from 11:00am until the time of services.
