Sebring, Ohio - Rev. Don C. Sillaman, Sr., age 92, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Alliance Community Hospital. He was born on August 29, 1917, in Youngwood, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Rose R. (Helfrick) and James C. Sillaman. He was a 1936 graduate of Youngwood High School in Youngwood, Pennsylvania. Rev. Sillaman attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana for ministerial studies and graduated from Garrett School of Theology in Evanston, Illinois. From 1951 until 1956 he was at Dorset Charge, where he ministered to the Methodist churches of Dorset, Cherry Valley and Richmond. In 1956 until 1961 he was pastor at the Deerfield United Methodist Church, moving on to Malvern United Methodist Church from 1961 until 1964. From 1964 until 1970 he ministered to Newport Charge Methodist Churches; from 1970 until 1976 he was at Denison Charge Methodist Churches and from 1976 until 1982 and from 1992 until 1997 he ministered to West Austintown United Methodist Church. He was at Warren Grace United Methodist Church from 1982 until 1987 and every summer for five years he ministered to the Andover First United Methodist Church outdoor Ministry at Wildwood Acres. Rev. Sillaman was formerly the president of Approved Supplies of the Conference, Chairperson of Commission of Equitable Salaries of the Conference and served on the Conference Planning Committee. He was known as a good fisherman as well as a fisher of men. Rev. Sillaman is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Judith N. Sillaman; a sister, Lucetta M. Sedmik and a brother, Jay W. Sillaman. Survivors include his wife of seventy-two years, Rev. Edith G. (Ryan) Sillaman, whom he married on July 3, 1937. Other survivors are his daughter, Deborah A. Sillaman of Orwell, Ohio; five sons, Don C. Sillaman, Jr. of Marietta, Ohio, Allen B. (Helen) Sillaman, Sr. of Dover, Ohio, Rev. Dennis W. (Lois) Sillaman of Canon City, Colorado, Timothy P. (Robin) Sillaman of Cincinnati, Ohio and Allen B. Sillaman, Jr. of Poland, Ohio; a brother, Wayne A. Sillaman of Youngwood, Pennsylvania; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Baumgardner Funeral Home 134 Prospect Street, Andover, Ohio. Thursday, April 29th calling hours will be held from 1:00pm until 3:00pm with a service beginning at 3:00pm at First United Methodist Church of West Austintown, 6749 Mahoning Ave., Austintown, Ohio, 44515, with Rev. Dr. George Leonard Lee and Rev. Dennis W. Sillaman officiating. Private burial will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
