Richard A. Root

Richard A. Root, age 84, of Cortland, OH, died Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren,OH. He was born November 18, 1924, in Warren Township, OH, the son of Arden and Currance (Hawkins) Root. A lifetime Kinsman resident, Mr. Root had lived in Cortland for the past two years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines having served in World War II. He was employed in the forestry and line division for Ohio Edison for over 36 years, retiring in 1987. Mr. Root was a long time member of the Kinsman Presbyterian Church; a member of the Gustavus Masonic Lodge #422, the Kinsman Chapter of the Royal Arch Masons #212; the Moose Lodge #276, Greenville, PA, the Shenango Valley Legion of the Moose #88; the Kinsman American Legion Post #506; and was former member of the FOE #429 of Meadville, PA. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, crossword puzzles, and fixing things. Mr. Root is survived by his wife, Hope (Hanawalt) Root, whom he married May 24, 1944, of Cortland; his two daughters, Micki Semroc of Cortland, and Tracey (David) Boggio of Lake Milton, OH; four grandchildren, Toby and Bambi Semroc, Jennifer Lakovich, and Jessica Boggio; and two great grandchildren, Ian and Elsa Semroc. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Virginia E. Parker. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main St., Kinsman,OH. Private burial of cremated remains will take place in Kinsman Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, September 8th from 6 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home with Masonic Services at 5:45 P.M. and a Service of Tribute by the Loyal Order of Moose at 8 P.M.
