Richard K. Smith, age 97, of Medina, Ohio, died Monday, February 1, 2016 at Medina Meadows. He was born October 11, 1918, in Warren, Ohio, the son of Edwin W. and Mabel (Brown) Smith. A lifetime area resident of Greene township, Ohio, Mr. Smith retired in 1985 after 20 years of service from Maplewood School District as custodian. He also was a dairy farmer for many years. Mr. Smith served as a member of the Maplewood School Board for several years; was a member of the Gustavus Federated Church and the Wagon Wheel Trailer Club. He enjoyed gardening, music, reading, and traveling all 50 states with his wife in their motor home. He married Anna Louise (Barbour) on August 8, 1943, and she preceded him in death on July 8, 2003. He is also preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Margaret J. Ort. He is survived by his son,Rick (Becky) Smith of Medina, OH; his daughter, Betty Morrison and son-in-law, Dick Lawrenz of Chesterland, OH; his grandchildren, Vincent (Paige) Morrison of Elkridge, MD, Stacey (Larry) Gage of Medway, MA, Kent Smith, Daniel Smith, and Aubrie Smith, all three of Medina, OH; his great granddaughter, Kathryn Gage; and nieces, nephews, several cousins and many friends. A private graveside service will be held for the immediate family in Greenlawn Cemetery, Greene twp, Ohio. A celebration of Mr. Smith's life will be held later during the Spring.
