Cherry Valley, Ohio - Robert Irwin Adair, age 94, died on Thursday, August 10, 2017 in Austinburg, Ohio. He was born on May 26, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio a son of Esther Viola (Kilbourne) and John Alexander Adair. Mr. Adair was a 1941 graduate of Henry Schaaf High School in Parma. After High School, Mr. Adair served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II on the destroyer escort vessel USS Calcaterra as a Torpedo man in the North Atlantic. Upon discharge, Mr. Adair joined the Parma Police Department and retired as Capitan after twenty-seven years of service. After retiring, he worked at the AAA in Cleveland before starting a new career with UPS as Safety Training Manager. On July 30, 1955 he married fellow police officer Eleanore B. Spider. Mr. Adair was a member of the Parma Lodge Fraternal Order of Police. He was a member of the Newton Falls and Parkside Lodges, F. & A.M., Past Master of Parma, Andover, Tuscan, Relief, Triandria, Hart’s Grove and Rising Sun Lodges, Grand River and Jefferson Chapters of Royal Arch Masons, past High Priest of Covenant Chapter, R.A.M. and Columbian Commandery. He was past commander of Holyrood Commandery, received the Meritorious Service Award, was Master of Cleveland Council, Royal & Select Masons, Knight of the York Cross of Honor; past Sovereign Master of Shanower Council, Allied Masonic Degrees. A member and Past Master of the Covered Bridge Chapter Order of Eastern Star, member of the Fowler Council Knight Masons of Ireland, York Rite College, Philalethes Society, Al Koran Grotto, Al Koran Shrine Ancient Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland, Ohio Lodge of Research, Southern California Research Lodge, the Royal Order of Scotland, a Holy Royal Arch Knights Templar Priest. He was also a Boy Scout Master of the Parma Troop. He was a member of the Cherry Valley United Methodist Church where he was a Lay Leader and taught the adult Sunday School Class. Mr. Adair enjoyed woodworking, making many items for the lodges he served as well as for friends and family. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of sixty-one years, Eleanore B. Adair; his sister, Viola Adair and his brother, Leslie E. Adair. Survivors include his three daughters, Shane M. (Michael) Adair-Roginski of Cherry Valley, Ohio, Cheance D. Adair of San Diego, California and Holiday E. Adair of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; a granddaughter, Emily Rose Adair, also of Pittsburgh, and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 21, 2017 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 134 Prospect Street, Andover, Ohio, with a Masonic Service at 7:45pm. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 22nd at 11:00am at the Cherry Valley United Methodist Church, 3353 US Route 6, Andover, Ohio, with Rev. John M. Germaine officiating. Burial will be held on Wednesdray, August 23rd at Noon at Crown Hill Cemetery, 8592 Darrow Road Twinsburg, Ohio.
