Ashtabula, Ohio - ROBERT H. BELZ Jr., 68, of the Lakeview Towers Apartments of Ashtabula, died on March 21, 2006 at Ashtabula County Medical Center. He was born on July 4, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio to Robert H. Belz Sr and Rosemary (Haggerty) Belz. Mr. Belz served in the United States Air Force. An Andover area resident for many years, Mr. Belz spent twenty years in Daytona Beach, Florida and several years in Alanta, Georgia. Mr. Belz was the local radio personality and sports announcer for WREO for many years and announced for several stations, retiring due to failing health in 2004. He was the 1971 recipient of the Billboards Personality of the year award. Mr. Belz was an avid sports enthusiast and announced for many basketball games for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University of Florida and football games for Bethune-Cookman College of Florida. He also did sports talk radio for Atlanta, Georgia for several years. Mr. Belz loved radio and was the owner and operator of his own station. He is preceded in death by his parents and a son Gary L. Belz in 1994. Survivors include four sons, David A. (Barbara) Belz of Big Sky, Montana, William R. (Christina) Belz of Wayne, Michael D. Belz of Daytona Beach, Florida, James E. (Jody) Belz of Los Angles, California; a daughter Tracy L. (Danny) Stephens of Atlanta, Georgia; former wife Ruth A. Montgomery of Wayne; former wife Deborah J. Belz of Alanta, Georgia; a brother Richard (Beverly) Belz of Knoxville, Tennessee; three sisters Joan (Jerry) St. Marie of Warren, Janet (Gene) Brockett of Pierpont, Judy (Denny) Szczepinski of Orwell; seven grandchilren Bob, Alex, Donnie, Dustin, Hunter, Jake and Sydney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 27, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Main Street, Andover, with Father David Misbrener officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Pierpont, Ohio. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 26, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect Street, Andover, Ohio.
