Robert L. Holmes,

Robert L. Holmes, Sr., age 87, of Conneautville, PA, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 31, 2011, at Meadville Medical Center. He was born June 5,1923, in Turtle Creek, PA, a son of Robert H. and Mabel L. (Kroack) Holmes. Mr. Holmes was formerly a long time Andover resident; and was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army in the African and Asiatic Theatre. He was employed as a mechanic and truck driver for many years; and was a member of the VFW. Mr. Holmes enjoyed building radio control airplanes. Mr. Holmes is preceded in death by his four wives, Joan (Connell), Bessie M. (McFadden), Bertha Mae (Hicks), and Juaniata (Huff); and his parents. He is survived by his son, Robert L. Holmes,Jr. of Meadville, PA, his daughter, Loretta J. Holmes of Pittsburgh, PA; his step children, Stanley, Rudy, Loraine, Charmaine, Avery, and Kenneth Vedder; his sister, Bonnie S. Beck of Pittsburgh, PA; his 6 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren;and his friend, Adrian D'Alessio of Kent,OH. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. at Maple Grove Cemetery, Andover, OH. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, April 5th from 12 noon to 3 P.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover,OH.
