Robert Allan Hyde, age 71 passed away at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center on February 29th, leap day, 2016. A unique and special day for a unique and special man. Robert was the beloved son of the late Genevieve (White) and Herbert W. Hyde of Kinsman, Ohio. Robert was a resident of Boyd's Kinsman Home where he resided for forty-four years. Most recently he was a resident of Burton Health Care in Burton, Ohio. Robert was a member of Kinsman Presbyterian Church for many years. He worked at the Fairhaven Workshop, Champion Branch and in later years was employed at Boyd's Sheltered Workshop, earning the respect of his supervisors. Not only was he a tireless worker and employee, he had many different interests including bowling for which he won many trophies. He also enjoyed collecting postcards and over the years amassed an impressive collection. Above all, he loved collecting and watching movies, mainly classic westerns. In later years it was a common sight to see him watching his beloved westerns with a big smile on his face. Though he did not have any children of his own he had two nieces, one nephew, one great-nephew, and three great-nieces whom he loved dearly. He loved spending time with his family on the holidays, especially Christmas and Thanksgiving. On Thanksgiving it was a delightful sight to see Robert devour his favorite part of the turkey, the leg! An extra turkey leg would be roasted in his honor, and he would lead the family in laughter at the thought of a three-legged turkey! Robert will always be remembered for making the holidays a little brighter not only for the children but for all family members. Robert is preceded in death by his parents and infant nephew, Timothy Hyde. Surviving family members include his sister, Kay (Jim) Powell of Burton, Ohio, and Pace, FL, two brothers, Nelson V. (Pat) Hyde of Bradenton, FL, and Terry W. Hyde of Kinsman, Ohio. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, many cousins, and beloved family friends, Sally Ursta and Caroline Bahr. We are saddened by his passing, but we shall rejoice that Robert was part of our lives. Let us celebrate his life as he, who like many of his cowboy heroes before him, rides off into that final sunset. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main St., Kinsman,OH, with Rev. Susan Francis officiating.
