Roberta E. Swezey, age 98, of Andover,Ohio, died Sat., Jan. 22,2011, at St. Paul Homes, Greenville,PA. She was born August 27, 1912, in Andover,Ohio, a daughter of Adelbert L. and Kate I. (DeWitt) Crum. Mrs. Swezey was a 1930 graduate of Andover School; and attended the Oberlin Business School. She worked for her father at the Andover Basket Factory; and was employed by nursing homes in Rock Creek, Ashtabula, and Vernon. She was a lifelong member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Andover; and was a member of the former Floral Chapter of Eastern Star, Andover, and now the Covered Bridge Chapter. She was active in the PTO for many years and was a horse show supporter. She was an avid reader; enjoyed crossword puzzles, the library, rocking her grandbabies, and cheering her children in their endeavors. She also enjoyed having a cat or dog as pets. Mrs. Swezey married Harry G. Swezey on Dec. 20, 1931, and he died April 13, 1969. She is also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Florence Lenore Swezey, and her sister, Kathryn E. Byrne. She is survived by her four sons, Norman J. (Yvonne) Swezey of Harpersfield, OH, Eugene B. Swezey of Austinburg,OH, Bryan L. Swezey of Richmond Township, OH, and his special friend, Bernice Link, and Harry A. "Hank" (Lucy) Swezey of Andover,OH; her five daughters, Roberta C. (Robert) Crooks of Williamsfield, OH, Kathryn J. (Fiance, John Anthe) Burmeister of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Lou Ann (Bruce) Chapman of Jefferson, OH, Martha E. (Charles) Cole of Champion, OH, and Mary S. (Stephen) Pontoni of Jefferson, OH; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren with a great granddaughter and a great-great grandchild expected soon. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St., Andover,Ohio. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Andover. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, January 25th from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. and on Wednesday from 10 A.M. until the time of services.
