ANDOVER-Roger E. Sisson, 86, formerly of Madison, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Jefferson Healthcare.
Born December 25, 1937, in Cleveland, he was the son of the late William E. and Lyda (Loe) Sisson. Roger was a 1956 Graduate of Collinwood High School in Cleveland.
In 1957, he enlisted in the United States Army before being honorably discharged in 1959. On June 6, 1959, Roger married the love of his life, U. Joan Bolmeyer.
Roger was a proud owner and operator of Convenient Food Mart in Geneva, where he devoted 27 years of his life, providing service and support to the community. He concluded his working career as a school bus driver for Madison Schools, where he was known for his kindness and commitment to the safety of the students he transported.
Roger's contributions to the community extended beyond his business and driving career. A dedicated volunteer, he served as a Madison Volunteer Fireman from 1963 to 1978. His leadership abilities were shone through during his tenure as Rotarian District Governor from 1985 to 1986, and he was an active member of the Geneva Hospital Board of Directors for several years.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Roger found joy in many hobbies and interests. He was an avid golfer at the Madison Country Club and took pride in his yard work. Roger also displayed remarkable skills as a carpenter, having rebuilt two homes in Madison. His early experiences included helping his father build their family cottage in Andover at the tender age of 15, a project that instilled in him a lifelong love for craftsmanship and family tradition. After retiring, Roger and his wife, Joan, embraced this legacy, living in the family cottage, which had also been a cherished place for his parents.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Joan Sisson, of Andover, formerly of Madison; two daughters, Barbara Gross (fiancé, Felix Stanis) and Carol Sisson (husband, Paul Kowalczyk); three grandchildren, Alex (Lydia) Gross, Jacob Kowalczyk, Abby Kowalczyk; great-grandchild, Brooks Gross.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Kathryn Mahoney.
A private graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery, Andover, OH.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Geneva Rotary Club, Po Box 421, Geneva, OH 44041.
