Ruth McNiff, age 85, of Andover, Ohio, died Thursday, February 19, 2009, at St. Paul Homes. She was born May 5, 1923, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Walter and Marie (Niemczyk) Lipski. A long time Andover resident, Mrs. McNiff was a telephone operator during World War II. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Andover, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She also was a member of the Andover Mardi Club and Friends of the Andover Public Library. Her hobbies included playing Bridge and gardening; and she was an avid reader. She is survived by her two daughters, Diane (Ron) Phillips of McDonald, PA, and Patricia (Ken) Kirby of Linesville, PA; her son, James (Sophia) McNiff of North Carolina; one brother, Norman (Sonja) Lipski of Pittsburgh, PA; three grandchildren, Shawn Kirby, Stephanie McNiff, and Dana Sabatucci; and four great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James C. McNiff, whom she married on September 27, 1947; two brothers, Henry and Walt Lipski; and two grandchildren, Scott Phillips and Rachael McNiff. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 134 Prospect St.,Andover, OH, with Rev. Kevin McCaffrey officiating. A private burial of cremated remains will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburgh, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Andover Public Library, P.O.
