Ruth L. (Nephew) Damon

RUTH LUCILE DAMON Nov. 16, 1924 - Oct. 31, 2008 Ruth Lucile Damon, 83, of Elkhart, Indiana, formerly of Kinsman, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 31, 2008. She was born November 16, 1924 in Kinsman, Ohio, the daughter of the late Seward Ralph & Carrie Bascom Nephew. She was a 1942 graduate of Kinsman High School and a 1945 graduate of Trumbull Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She then enrolled in Bible School at Baptist Bible Institute in 1947, in Cleveland, Ohio, to prepare for the mission field. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Warren, Ohio, and they were very supportive of her and her life's work in missions. She served as a Missionary Nurse and mid-wife with Baptist Mid-Mission, first in the Chad, then in Central Africa Republic for thirty years. She was united in marriage to Richard H. Damon on May 30, 1982, and moved to South Bend, Indiana. She retired in August 1994 as a nurse with Ironwood Health & Rehabilitation Center. After lovingly caring for her husband for several years, he passed away October 17, 2000. Mrs. Damon was a member of Community Baptist Church in South Bend. She is also preceded in death by two sisters, Vera Louise Burr, Allie Blanch Phelps, and two brothers, David Seward Nephew and George Ackland Nephew. Surviving Ruth are two brothers, Edmund Ashley (Marese) Nephew of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; and Bion Frank (Lillian) Nephew of Lucas, Ohio, seventeen nieces & nephews and many great-nieces and nephews. Also surviving are three step-daughters, Bonnie Lou (Paul) Jacobson of Seattle, Washington; Mary Ann (Richard) Smith of Elkhart, Indiana; Juanita Ruth (Steve) Kozak of Auburn Hills, Michigan; two step-sons, Timothy Hart Damon of Cleveland, Ohio; and Jonathan Hart (Kelly) Damon of Kinzers, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 1:00p.m. at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main Street, Kinsman, Ohio, with Pastor C. Richard Phelps officiating.. Burial will follow in Kinsman Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 5th from 11:00a.m. until the time of services.
