Cherry Valley Township,OH--- RUTH IRENE SAVEL, age 77, of Cherry Valley Township,OH, died at her home Wednesday morning, March 28, 2007 surrounded by her family. She was born October 9, 1929, in Willoughby,OH,the daughter of Agnes (Hudak) and Andro Svec. She has resided in Cherry Valley since 1930. Mrs. Savel graduated from New Lyme Deming High School in June of 1947. She married John Savel on April 21, 1951at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Andover, Ohio, by the Rev. Father Leonard. Mrs. Savel was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and sang in the church choir. She was also a former CCD teacher and received the Pope Pius X award for her many years of service in teaching Catholic doctrine. Mrs. Savel was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW in Andover. Mrs. Savel was employed by the A & P Grocery store in Andover for ten years, by Andover Industries, and by Kennametal,Inc. She was also employed by NAMCO (National Acme) Controls for sixteen years before retiring to become a homemaker. She enjoyed dancing and roller skating in her younger years; bowling in a league; and crocheting afghans, especially for all the children. Mrs. Savel loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandson. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in their extracurricular activities; and was a Cleveland Indians and Cavs fan. She is survived by her husband, John Savel, of Cherry Valley; four children, John A. Savel of Cherry Valley, Monica (Jim) Gribus of Ashtabula,OH, James (Joey) Savel, Sr. of Jefferson, OH, and Mark (Denise) Savel of Cherry Valley; six grandchildren, Shannon (Ian) Ball of Mansfield,OH, Sarah, Rebecca, and Steven Savel of Cherry Valley; and James Jr. and Jacob Savel of Jefferson; one great-grandson, Braden Ball; and her twin sister, Rose Dragon of Conneaut,OH. Mrs. Savel was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister; and two brothers, Joseph and Lawrence Svec, Sr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 2, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 481 S. Main St., Andover,OH, with Rev. Kevin McCaffrey officiating. Burial will follow in Cherry Valley Cemetery.
