Hartford, Ohio - S. Keith Edgar, to know Keith was to know a wonderful storyteller, his wit drew in all who knew him and shared in his laughter and stories. Just sit next to him at a restaurant and you'd soon be friends. Keith was one of those people who brightened a room and put others at ease. He was loved and respected by all that knew him. After battling ALS since August of 2014, Keith, age 71, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at his home in Hartford, Ohio, with his family by his side. The son of a preacher, he was born in Dodge City, Kansas to Dr. Kermit Samuel Edgar and Martha M. (Greer) Edgar. Keith grew up primarily in Pittsburgh and New Alexandria, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Derry Area High School in 1963. He went on to receive his bachelors degree from Geneva College in 1967 and his masters in 1971 from Youngstown State University. In the Warren City School system Keith taught 6th grade science, ran the adult education programming and then went on to become a Principal at Secrest, Roosevelt, Lincoln and Garfield Elementary Schools. For over thirty-five years he was loved by his colleagues, staff and students, retiring in 2002. In his community Keith served on the Board of Directors of the Kinsman Boyd's Home for twenty-eight years and was a past president of the Joseph Badger Soccer Association. On August 23, 1969 he married Betsy Ann Porch, formerly of Saltsburgh, Pennsylvania, who was his loving wife of forty-six years, together creating and sharing a lifetime of memories. He was an accomplished woodworker evident by the cabinetry in their home and gifts to friends. Keith loved animals, especially riding horses. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming. He loved his family and was devoted to them. But above all Keith loved the Lord, serving selflesslsy in his various church communities. Keith is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Betsy A. Edgar of Hartford, Ohio; two children, Scott S. (Kristy) Edgar of Hartford, Ohio and Jennifer L. Edgar of Wayne, Pennsylvania; a sister, Lois (Bruce) Alexander of Mount Clair, Virginia and three grandchildren, MacKenzie, Liam and Tristan. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 11:00am at Keith's Church, Crossroads Christian Fellowship Church, 805 Vernon Road, Greenville, PA with Pastor, Todd Jaussen officiating. Private burial will be held in Shenango Valley Cemetery, Greenville, Pennsylvania. Memorial contributions may be made to, Senior Independence Center Hospice, 6715 Tippecanoe Rd.
